The government creates policies that affect all our lives. It is critical that those policies reflect the lived experiences of the people affected by them. The government needs to hear citizen voices about these proposed housing policy changes. They do this through a formal process called “public commenting” or “commenting.” Please read below about the policies open for public comment.
FTC Better Rental Housing Fee Practices
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is seeking public comments on a proposed trade regulation rule that would prevent landlords from charging undisclosed fees to their tenants. Since they are seeking public comments, now is the time to share with the FTC about your experience with undisclosed or “junk” fees.

The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is seeking public comment on a proposed revocation of the ruling for a required 30-day notice of eviction to tenants receiving public housing assistance (PHA).

Mixed-Status Rule Change
The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is seeking public comment on a proposed rule that would require verification of U.S. citizenship or appropriate immigration status while being housed in public and specified assisted housing programs. This citizenship
requirement would be for any individual of any age. Each family member living in a household would have to have their status verified, and if not everyone can be verified, then the family could not all live together.
The time to comment on this policy is now.
